Where are you based? I am based in Maghera, Co. Derry, N. Ireland.
What do you love about The Thrive Programme? I love the Thrive Programme because it provides you with a toolkit for life, once you learn how to manage your thinking everything makes sense, anxiety and worry diminishes and a new found confidence and zest for life appears. I love how it is easy to understand, is evidence based and most importantly is empowering. It is also extremely interesting and fun and just simply explains how our brain works and how you can take control of your thinking to live life to the full and Thrive.
What did you do before you became a Coach? I was a primary school teacher for over twenty years, I love working with children and am a volunteer coach at our local Sports Club. I found out about The Thrive Programme because our daughter was suffering from Emetophobia and we had tried numerous therapies to no avail. A family friend recommended the Thrive Programme and we watched testimonials and listened to the Emetophobia Free Podcast which gave us so much hope. We contacted Philippa (our coach) and embarked upon the programme. Our daughter had her own sessions and my husband and I had our sessions so that we could support our daughter as much as possible. I was amazed at how she overcame Emetophobia in just over 8 weeks and wanted to become a Thrive coach myself as I was so impressed with the Programme.
What do you do when you're not working? I enjoy going to the gym and walking our lovely Cocker spaniel Mila in our local forest. I love yoga and the peace it brings. I also love meeting up with family and friends as often as I can. I like to watch our children playing sport and attend their games as much as possible. I support my husband on all of his sporting pursuits, he has completed numerous triathlons and an Iron man which has allowed me to travel to some really cool places. I love quiet time and a good hot cup of tea especially accompanied with chocolate. I enjoy going to see comedians and feel that laughter and fun is infectious. I enjoy a good podcast and like to devour a good thriller of a book.
An interesting fact? I sang an Irish ballad in a German primary school whilst visiting Berlin on an Erasmus trip when I had just started teaching. I was nominated by my principal at the time and had to get up ad hoc to perform in front of a large hall of teaching staff and pupils. They probably couldn't understand a word I was singing but kindly applauded me regardless and I ended up making it into the local newspaper.
Anything else? I have a special interest and experience in Emetophobia and have a lot of experience working with children and teenagers. I have great empathy for parents of Emetophobic children as I experienced this myself with our daughter. She is now Emetophobia free and I feel that this will give great hope to other families struggling with this debilitating phobia.
