Hi, my name is...
Garry Lake

Garry Lake, Thrive Programme Coach in Milton Keynes
Meet Garry...

Where are you based? I have until recently been residing in a small village outside of Bedford and am able to still consult from there. I now live in and around Milton Keynes, I say in and around as I am currently living on a narrow boat which I have spent the last year or so building.

What do you love about The Thrive Programme? Having participated in The Thrive Programme myself a few years ago, I know first hand how powerful and life changing this programme is. It changed my life and my outlook on the future. I am a true ambassador for the programme as I know it works and seeing the amazing impact it has on other people’s lives is wholly worthwhile. I have now taken dozens of people through the programme and seeing them progress and make life changes is amazing.

What did you do before you became a Coach? Not only do I practice as a Thrive Programme Coach®, I am also a Manager in a large Children’s Social Care Team, so working with people is my main skill set. I have never been as confident as I am now. Prior to completing the Thrive Programme I suffered with social anxiety and huge confidence issues – since completing the programme I haven’t looked back. I now manage a team of over 80 people, have recently built a boat which I am now living on and I am always looking for that next challenge and adventure.

What do you do when you're not working? I have always been an active person and very much love being around or better still, in/on some form of water, whether it’s surfing, wakeboarding or my canal boat. I love nothing more than going away in my camper van to find a new surf spot, attending a music festival or just going on that next adventure. I have recently learnt to snowboard which I now love, but so long as I am being active and seeking that next challenge I am happy.

An interesting fact? One of the best experiences of my life to date is surfing with surf legend and musician Jack Johnson. I surfed with him in the morning, watched him play at the Eden Project that night then drove from Cornwall to London to see him play again the following night – legend.

Anything else? I love being part of The Thrive Organisations and I am excited to be part of the Kickoff@3 football initiative that The Thrive Programme are proud sponsors of this year.
