THRIVING THROUGH P.T.S.D. & TRAUMA
A NEW AND HIGHLY EFFECTIVE APPROACH TO OVERCOMING CHRONIC ANXIETY, ADVERSE EXPERIENCES AND POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS
ORIGINS & SYMPTOMS
What happens when a person is exposed to something unexpected, highly stressful, and even traumatic, without the psychological skills and insights to process what’s happened and reflect on it in a helpful and empowering way? Chronic anxiety, high levels of stress, and post-traumatic stress are just some of the cognitive problems that can arise, as well as a whole host of accompanying physiological symptoms, the result of which is that your mind and body simply aren’t able to function at their best.
CREATING A MENTALLY HEALTHY WORKPLACE (AND WORKFORCE)
Not only can The Thrive Programme (TTP) effectively treat these symptoms and teach sufferers the skills to overcome them, be psychologically more resilient and in control of their thoughts and emotions, but training doesn’t have to be given once somebody is already struggling or even at crisis point. At TTP we are passionate about promoting mental wellbeing before problems arise in the first place. Advanced workplace training (particularly helpful for professions with a substantially higher exposure to stressful, traumatic or high-risk situations) gives the solid psychological skills and self-insight in order to ‘inoculate’ staff against future problems, reduce staff stress and sickness levels, and boost their resilience and problem-solving abilities in even the most challenging work environments.
HOW TTP CAN HELP, AND WHY IT IS DIFFERENT
TTP is entirely different to any other treatment or intervention, even if on the surface they may sound similar. TTP doesn’t just focus upon giving a person some isolated insights, tools and techniques to cope with a symptom or problem…these approaches are ‘firefighting’ – trying to control or reduce the anxiety or trauma symptoms AFTER we have already created them. Often people tire quickly of having to maintain this level of effort of fending off negative thoughts.
We teach people exactly how their thinking styles and belief systems are not only creating these symptoms, but actually maintaining them and keeping them stuck in a debilitating cycle of anxiety, stress and trauma. Furthermore, TTP is about THRIVING so overcoming these symptoms is just one part of that. It is about creating strong psychological foundations so that we are not creating anxiety or stress. You don’t need to fire-fight if you are not setting fires in the first place. For trauma and post-traumatic stress, we also teach people how their memories and emotions are processed, and how to break the cycles of flashbacks and post-traumatic anxiety caused by constant regurgitation of distressing or negative memories.
“Thrive is an actively engaging programme which… made me realise that what happened to me in the past is the past, and by simply regaining control of my thoughts and therefore actions, I am the happiest I could have ever imagined… Those feelings of sadness and helplessness are a genuine distant memory and I’ve never felt so in control of all my emotions.”
TTP is NOT therapy – it’s the complete opposite to therapy – and it puts people in the driving seat of their own mental wellbeing. This means that when people do meet hurdles in life, they are well-prepared to meet them head-on, feeling powerful, capable and positive.
TTP is a highly-effective way to not only overcome existing psychological difficulties but to protect against future difficulties too. We have experience in successfully treating people in a huge variety of demanding professions, including the police, emergency services, armed forces, and charities working with vulnerable and traumatised people on a daily basis. But don’t just take our word for it - our testimonials below explain just how effective the programme is in tackling chronic anxiety, adverse experiences, trauma, and post-traumatic stress, and teaching people how to move forwards and truly ‘thrive’ again!

- ANDY - A SERVING FIREARMS OFFICER - DESCRIBES HIS EXPERIENCE OF TTP AND HELPING WITH TRAUMATIC STRESS
“I have been a police officer for almost 20 years and an Operational Firearms Commander for the last 10 years within the Armed Response Unit. Throughout my service I suffered from stress due to the ongoing rigours of the job mixed with issues in my personal life. I completed the Thrive Programme and learned how my mind was interacting to create my symptoms. I discovered that it was my overall feeling of having no power or control in my life that was the main driver for my stress reactions. After completing The Thrive Programme I felt more in control and was able to use the skills I learnt during the course of my daily duties. This included negotiating with emotionally and mentally distressed people as well as speaking to colleagues who were beginning to show signs of stress. Being more aware of how someone's mind works, allowed me to identify stress in colleagues and signpost them to treatment at an early stage. I have directed some colleagues to the Thrive Programme and it has relieved symptoms in a few weeks where they had previously received other treatments for months and even years.
The Thrive Programme can assist all front line officers and staff to cope with the increased demand we face daily. It can work as a treatment to relieve symptoms but also as a package to prevent issues from occurring in the first place. This means that less days could be lost due to sickness absence and periods of duty restrictions. The best thing I found having completed the programme is that I now have lasting tools to deal with anything that life or the job throws at me.”
